St. Charles Chill News Release
Independence, Mo. - St. Charles trailed for just 10 seconds on Friday night but it was the final 10 seconds that counted the most as the Chill squandered a 4-2 third period lead and left the Independence Events Center with a winless streak of six games after falling to the Missouri Mavericks by a final of 5-4.
The Chill (2-9-2) jumped out to an early lead when Steven Anthony scored his first for St. Charles unassisted just 3:43 into the contest to quiet the crowd right off the bat, but the Mavericks (10-2-0) answered back less than three minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. St. Charles made it 2-1 midway through the first when Jordan Fox stole the puck and poked it past Mav goalie Joe Howe with a defender on his hip for his third goal and tenth point (leads team).
Anthony Perdicaro stretched the Chill lead to 3-1 less than five minutes into the second period with his third goal and the first two-goal lead of the season, on assists from Kevin Noble and Tony DeHart. Missouri closed within one at the 6:12 mark in the second period but the Chill answered to start the third.
Tony DeHart notched his first on a slap shot from the blue line that glanced off the glove of Howe and rolled down his back and into the net for a 4-2 lead that would stand for 13 minutes. The Mavericks scored three unanswered goals in the final 13 minutes, including the game-winner from Evan Vossen with 10 second remaining to clinch the win for the Mavs.
The intrastate rivals are back at it tomorrow night in the battle for the Show Me Cup in Kansas City with the puck drop set for 7:05. You can catch all the action at www.talkSTL.com or by downloading the TalkSTL app on your mobile phone.
St. Charles is back on home ice next Wednesday at 7:05 before Pink the Rink night November 30th at 7:05.
