Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Independence, MO -- The Missouri Mavericks (17-19-2-2, 38 points) stayed perfect on their current seven-game home stand winning their third straight game in a 4-0 shutout performance over the Wichita Thunder (20-17-2-4, 46 points) in front of a sold out crowd at Independence Events Center.
The Mavericks continue to climb the standings in a quest for one of the four Central Division playoff spots. On their current win streak, Missouri has outscored the opposition 10-3.
Mike Clemente made 34 saves in the game, but a goalie fight with Wichita's Tyler Bunz in the final 70 seconds of the contest prevented him from earning his first official shutout of the season. Clemente does earn the win improving to 9-11-0-1 on the season. Bunz finished the game with 31 saves taking the loss.
After a scoreless first period, the Mavs erupted for three goals in the second period with Sebastien Thinel scoring his 12th of the season at the 34 second mark of the frame. Then Jack Downing padded the lead with back-to-back goals, the first on the power play at 5:46 and the second at the 15:52 mark making the count 3-0 after two periods.
The lone goal in the third period came off the stick of Landon Oslanski, his sixth of the season, securing the one-sided victory for Missouri.
Thinel stays hot with two goals and three assists over the Mavs three-game winning streak and Downing has goals in each of the three games (four goals).
Geoff Walker finished with a pair of assists earning the third star of the game joining Clemente (1st star) and Downing (2nd star) as the game's top players.
Missouri's seven-game home stand continues Tuesday night when the Mavs host the Quad City Mallards. Face-off is set for 7:05 PM (CST) at Independence Events Center. The first 600 ladies in attendance will get a "Mystery Giftcard" giveaway from Kennedy's Custom Jewelers!
