Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks crushed the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night at the Independence Events Center with a fierce 5-1 finish, connecting on 3 of 3 power play opportunities.
The Mavericks took control of the first period with three goals in the first 5 minutes and 25 seconds of the game. Eric Castonguay was the first to connect on a feed from Mike Ramsay and Colt King to prove the Mavs we on their game at the Independence Events Center. Then Andrew Courtney added his name to the score sheet, assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Eric Castonguay. Before the goal announcement was finished being read, the Mavs lit the lamp again and brought the fans to their feet with a 3-0 scoreboard. Trevor Kell hit the third goal of the night, assisted by John-Scott Dickson and Rob Kleebaum.
The Rush pulled goaltender Keaton Hartigan from the net directly after the Mavs' third goal, replacing him with Tim Boron between the posts.
Maintaining the same pace as they displayed in the first, the Mavs furthered their lead with their second and third power-play goals of night, a crowd-pleasing shot from John-Scott Dickson that snuck under Tim Boron's pad and a rocket shot from the point by Andrew Courtney, interrupted only by one goal from Rapid City's Winston Day Chief.
Leading 5-1 entering period three, the Mavs were up on their toes to fend off the ravenous Rush from making any kind of comeback. Keaton Hartigan took his place back in goal for the Rush at the top of the period, but did not have much to face with the Mavericks being conservative all night with shots on goal, posting only 6 in the third period, and 15 throughout the night.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next game on the road in Tulsa on the Friday, January 17th before returning home to the Independence Events Center on Saturday, January 18th to face-off against the Wichita Thunder in the sixth game of the Independence Cup Series. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com and the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office.
