ADELANTO - High Desert starting pitcher Jandy Sena allowed just two runs over 8 2/3 innings and the Mavericks pounded out 15 hits in an 8-2 victory over the San Jose Giants on Wednesday evening at Stater Bros. Stadium. In the opener of a four-game series, High Desert never trailed and broke the contest open with six runs over the fifth and sixth innings. San Jose has now split the first four games of their road trip while their overall record dropped to 72-37.

Sena (2-2) picked-up the win after coming within one out of a complete- game. The Mavericks right-hander allowed seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts during his 116-pitch performance. The #2 through #4 hitters in the High Desert lineup of Leury Bonilla, Jamie McOwen and Steven Proscia combined to finish 9-for-12 with seven runs scored, two homers and six RBI's.

Ehire Adrianza (2-for-4, 2 2B) and Jarrett Parker (2-for-3, RBI, SB) both had multi-hit games at the plate to lead the Giants offensively.

The Mavericks quickly jumped on Tom Vessella, who was making his first start with San Jose after 12 relief appearances. With one out in the bottom of the first, Bonilla singled before McOwen stepped to the plate and launched a first-pitch home run to deep right field.

Sena breezed through the first four innings allowing just one hit - a double to Adrianza in the top of the first. Parker's one-out single in the fifth inning broke a string of 12 consecutive hitters that Sena had retired. Parker then stole second before Alex Burg lined an RBI single to right cutting the High Desert lead in half. Sena though pitched out of further trouble by inducing the next hitter, Nick Liles, to bounce into a double play.

Ari Ronick relieved Vessella to begin the bottom of the fifth and struggled as a pair of singles and walk loaded the bases with none out. Mario Martinez then grounded into a fielder's choice to plate one run before Matt Ceroine's RBI groundout made it 4-1.

The Mavericks then erupted for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Ronick. Gabriel Noriega led off with a double into shallow left center field before advancing to third on Daniel Carroll's sacrifice bunt. Ronick then struck out Jack Marder for the second out, but Bonilla followed with a line drive single into center to score Noriega with the first run of the frame. McOwen was then hit by a pitch before Proscia connected for a three-run home run to left for an 8-1 advantage.

Sena had retired nine out of 10 Giants batters and was one strike away from a complete-game when Tommy Joseph lined a double off the fence in deep right center field. Ryan Cavan followed with a single before Parker's RBI single up the middle cut the lead to 8-2. Willy Kesler though was summoned from the bullpen and he promptly struck out Burg on three pitches to end the game.

Vessella (3-1) suffered his first loss with the Giants after scattering seven hits with two runs (both earned) allowed in four innings of work. He walked two and struck out three. Vessella induced inning-ending double plays in the second and third before another double play for the first two outs in the fourth.

Ronick (2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) and Stephen Harrold (2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO) both pitched out of the San Jose bullpen.
