Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - A trio of goals in a span of 3:10 was enough for the Missouri Mavericks to hold on for a 3-2 win over the Rapid City Rush on Friday night. Over 5,000 fans packed the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to celebrate 'Pink at the Rink' and raise funds for the Rapid City Regional Hospital Foundation and Cancer Care Institute.
After a scoreless first period, both sides combined for four goals in the second period, beginning with Collin Circelli's tally at 4:15. Circelli gave the Rush a 1-0 advantage by capitalizing on a breakaway with a shot over the blocker of Mavs goaltender Charlie Effinger. Less than four minutes later, the Mavericks evened the score on a goal from veteran Sebastien Thinel who earned his 700th CHL point on the play. It was then defenseman Dave Pszenyczny who poured in two goals just 1:04 apart to give Missouri a 3-1 advantage. His first came at 10:15 on a shot from the low slot while his second came shorthanded on a rebound at the top of the crease. Pszenyczny's second goal at 11:19 signaled the end of the night for Rush goaltender Danny Battochio, making way for Tim Boron in net.
The Rush pulled to within one, getting a powerplay goal from Mike Vaskivuo near the midway point of the third period, but the Mavericks held on for the 3-2 triumph.
