MOLINE, Ill. - Four different Quad City Mallards scored, Brandon Marino picked up two assists and David Brown made 36 saves as the host Mallards defeated the Arizona Sundogs 4-2 Saturday night. With the win the fifth place Mallards improve to 26-19-1 (53 points) and remain one point behind fourth place Rapid City in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference.

The Mallards built a 3-0 lead before the Sundogs battled back into the game in the third period.

Eric Giosa stole the puck in the Arizona slot and buried the game's opening goal at 7:31 of the first period. Brown was at his busiest turning aside all 15 shots he faced in the opening period.

The Mallard lead doubled when Sean Flanagan one timed Marino's centering pass at 4:52 of the second period.

Quad City was on the power play when John Snowden scored from the slot to stretch the lead to 3-0 at 15:07 of the second.

"We started moving our feet more in the second period and bringing pucks off the half wall and had some success," said Mallards coach and general manager David Bell.

The Sundogs rebounded to pull within one by scoring twice in just over a minute early in the third period. Kyle Hood snapped home a power play goal from the left wing circle to get Arizona on the scoreboard for the first time at 3:35 of the third. At 4:44 Craig McDonald fired a cross-ice pass from Olivier Proulx past Brown to cut the Mallard lead to 3-2.

The Sundogs, however, would have no response after the Mallards' Jeremy Boyer provided a vital insurance goal at 9:04 of the third period by converting Obi Aduba's centering feed.

By notching a pair of assists Marino reached 64 points for the season. Marino remains just one point behind Evansville's Todd Robinson in the race for the league point scoring lead.
