Mavericks Add Defenseman Olivieri

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Missouri Mavericks announced today that they have signed rookie defenseman Don Olivieri (all-ih-VEHR-ee) to a standard player contract. He joins the Mavericks as the top goal-scoring defenseman in the Southern Professional Hockey League with 12.

Olivieri, 25, comes to Missouri from Peoria of the SPHL where he has 19 points (11g, 8a) and a +6 rating in 31 games with the Rivermen. He also produced four points (1g, 3a) in six games with the Mississippi RiverKings before a November 7 trade sent him to Peoria.

A 6-foot-0, 200-pound defender, Olivieri turned professional in 2015 and notched 27 points (10g, 17a) in 43 games split between Berlin of the Federal Hockey League and SPHL Mississippi. Prior to turning professional the Philadelphia, Pa. native recorded 54 points (19g, 35a) in 82 collegiate games between Nazareth College and Utica College.

Olivieri has arrived in Independence and is expected to be available when the Mavericks host the Idaho Steelheads on Friday at 7:35 p.m.
