Mattersdorfer Named Skills & Development Coach

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday they have named Charlie Mattersdorfer as the clubs new Skills & Development Coach.

Mattersdorfer, 41, has spent the last two seasons as the Hurricanes Power Skating Coach after being hired in 2021. The Fernie, BC product played with the 'Canes in 1997-1998 when he appeared in 47 games totaling nine points (4g-5a) along with 17 penalty minutes. He also spent five seasons with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Men's Hockey Team from 2001 to 2006 skating in 134 career games totaling 108 points.

"We are really excited to add Charlie to our staff as our new Skills & Development Coach," said Hurricanes Head Coach Brent Kisio. "His hockey experience, both as a player and as a power skating coach, will be a great addition for our players. Charlie's enthusiasm on and off the ice is contagious for everyone within our organization and we are very excited to have him in the fold in a bigger capacity for the upcoming season."

Mattersdorfer joins the Hurricanes coaching staff which returns Brent Kisio (Head Coach, 8th season), Matt Anholt (Assistant Coach/Assistant GM, 5th season), Ryan Aasman (Assistant Coach, 2nd season), Kevin Swanson (Goaltending Coach, 5th season), Tom Chapman (Video Coach, 3rd season) and Trevor Hardy (Strength & Conditioning Coach, 8th season) for the 2022-2023 season.

The Hurricanes open the 2022 ENMAX Training Camp on Thursday with Rookie Camp followed by Main Camp running through until Monday when the annual Red vs. White Intersquad game will take place at 12:00pm at the ENMAX Centre.

Admission for training camp will be free of charge while the intersquad game will be free with a donation of a cash sum or a non-perishable food item for the Lethbridge Food Bank and Interfaith Food Banks. Parking will also be free during training camp.

The 'Canes will open the 2022 ENMAX Pre-Season on Friday, September 9th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first of a four-game exhibition schedule. Lethbridge will also welcome the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, September 16th. Tickets for the two home games can be purchased for $10.00 cash at the Lethbridge Hurricanes Office, Lethbridge Minor Hockey Office or any Gas King location in Lethbridge.
