MYRTLE BEACH S.C. - Today the Carolina League announced that Myrtle Beach Pelicans CF Matt Young has been named the "Player of The Week" in the CL. Young hit .474 (9-19) with a grand slam, 10 RBI, four doubles, five walks, and scored five runs. Young's grand slam on Sunday night against the Wilmington Blue Rocks was his first homer of the season and the first Pelicans grand slam since Jarrod Saltalamacchia cleared the bases with a longball last August.
The 5'8 product out of Murphy, Texas enters tonight's ballgame at Winston-Salem hitting .268 with one homer and is second on the team in RBI with 23. Last night he drove in another run with an RBI ground out in the Pelicans 3-2 win over the Warthogs. Matt is the first Pelican to receive a "Player of the Week" honor this season.
On Tuesday night the Pelicans send RHP Luis Atilano to the mound to square off against Winston-Salem RHP Lucas Harrell. Game time is set for 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to all of the action on ESPN Radio 93.9 FM, 93.7 FM, and 1050 AM "The Team."
