Matt Kennedy Grand & Toy Player Of The Week

(GUELPH) The Guelph Storm announced that forward Matt Kennedy is the Grand & Toy Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 27th. Kennedy will also be the Guelph Storm nominee for OHL Player of the Week. The Storm forward picked up three goals and one assist for four points in three games this past week.

On Wednesday night in the Storm's 3-2 shootout loss to the Owen Sound Attack, Kennedy assisted on the Storm's tieing goal of the night that would eventually force overtime. The 18 year old had a strong game against the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday night scoring all three of the Storm's goals in the 3-2 win. Two of his three goals came in the second period while the third, and winning goal of the game, came with just under five minutes left in regulation. The Shanty Bay native was also named first star of the game for his efforts. Sunday night in Sault Ste. Marie Kennedy was held off the scoresheet, but played a solid defensive game ending up with an even rating.

Since coming back from injury in late December, Kennedy has more than doubled his point total from the first part of the season. The Storm forward has recorded nine points during the month of January, including three multiple goal games. He is currently tied for fourth on the team in goals with nine and has 12 points in 27 games.

Next up, Kennedy and the rest of the Storm head onto the road for two contests before returning home on Friday, February 8th to face off against the Saginaw Spirit. The Storm travel to Sarnia on Friday night to face off against the Sting. Game time is 7:30 pm and can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet. Kitchener is the Storm's destination on Saturday as they travel to the Aud for a match-up with the Rangers.
