Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - A new chapter will be added to the heated rivalry between the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and Niagara IceDogs on Wednesday night. Since the IceDogs inception into the OHL in 1998, these two foes have participated in some memorable tilts. This game should be no exception.
Heading into this season, the Majors held a 43-23-6 (W-L-T) advantage in the overall series between these teams. However, the IceDogs had the upper-hand during the 2004 OHL Eastern Conference Championship, winning in six games. The Majors returned the favour the next year, knocking off the top-seeded IceDogs in five games in the 2005 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals.
The IceDogs have carried the play so far this year, starting off the season with 4-1 and 7-3 victories in St. Catharines. Then, they rubbed further salt into the wound by handing Mississauga a 10-2 loss at the Hershey Centre in early November. In that game, due to an early injury to Majors starting goalie Chris Carrozzi, rookie back-up Will Sibley was called into his first OHL action and the IceDogs pounced early and often.
However, the Majors bounced back with a big 4-2 win in St. Catharines on December 9. That day, Majors forwards Casey Cizikas and Mike Pelech both provided 3 points and Carrozzi turned aside 29 shots.
This Wednesday, the level of aggression will, no doubt, be high once again. The Hershey Centre should be buzzing as the puck drop will take place at 7 p.m.
Majors tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office two hours prior to the puck drop on game-days or during regular business hours or by logging on to the Majors web site (www.stmichaelsmajors.com). For more information on group packages and luxury suites, please call the Majors office at 905-502-7788.
