
Matt Johnson Scores Overtime Winner as Mayhem Defeat

MACON, GA- Mayhem forward Matt Johnson scored with 2:59 left in overtime, as the Macon Mayhem defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 5-4.
Columbus' Riley Spraggs started the scoring, as he scored just two minutes into the game to give the Cottonmouths a 1-0 lead. Mark Rivera would answer just two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Jake Trask would give the Mayhem the lead as he scored on a spinning shot from the high slot. Late in the period, Rivera would score on a one-timer for his second goal of the game. The Mayhem led 3-1 after one period.
In the second, Derek Gingera scored on the backdoor to trim the Mayhem lead to 3-2. Early in the third period, Spraggs scored his second of the game to tie the game at 3-3. With eight minutes left, Corey Tyrell scored on a long shot to give the Cottonmouths the 4-3 lead, but Dennis Sicard would provide the heroics for the Mayhem. He scored on a rebound off of a Daniel Echeverri shot to tie the game at 4-4 with 6:06 left in the third period.
The game would go into overtime, and Matt Johnson would score the game-winning-goal on a shot from the slot, as the Mayhem defeated the Cottonmouths 5-4.
NOTABLE STATS
Troy Passingham made 25 saves on 29 shots, earning his second win of the season.
Jake Trask added two assists along with his goal, recording three points in the game. Ryan Michel, Dennis Sicard, and Daniel Echeverri also tallied multi-point games. This is Michel's second-straight two assist game.
Daniel Echeverri's two assists marked his first points since November 18th against the Fayetteville FireAntz.
Ex-Mayhem forward Vadim Guskov recorded two assists and a fight in his return to the Macon Coliseum.
