
Shorthanded RiverKings Earn Weekend Sweep with 4-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (14-5-1) skated with only 14 skaters and lost another midway through the second period, but came from behind to beat the Knoxville Ice Bears (9-6-2) 4-3 to earn a weekend series sweep in Knoxville on Saturday night.
The Ice Bears struck first in the opening half of the first period. Andrew Bonazza took a pass in the low slot from Trevor Hertz and put it past Brad Barone to put Knoxville up 1-0 8:26 into the first period.
The teams traded goals early in the second period. The Ice Bears added to their lead as Berkley Scott poked a loose puck behind Barone to the back of the net 15:04 into the second. The RiverKings responded less than two minutes later as Sam Higgins jammed the puck between the legs of Brian Billett to bring the visitors within one.
Each team found the back of the net early in the third. Robert Lindores poked the rebound off a Sam Higgins shot past Billet to tie the game at two 5:22 into the third. Knoxville responded 110 seconds later when Joseph Manno wristed a shot past Barone to give Knoxville the lead once again.
The RiverKings scored twice in 40 seconds to get their first lead of the game. Dustin Jesseau scored his first goal as a RiverKing on a wrist shot from the right circle to tie the game at three. The RiverKings took the lead when Mike Moran found a loose puck behind Billett and pushed it to the back of the net to give the RiverKings a 4-3 lead. The RiverKings held off a late Ice Bears power play to take the second game of a weekend series and earn the weekend sweep.
Brad Barone (6-3-1) picked up the win after stopping 29 of 32 shots against. Brian Billett (2-4-1) turned aside 18 of 22 in the loss.
