Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils dropped game one of a six game set to the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park. Starting pitcher James McArthur threw four solid innings of one hit ball, while Nick Matera's solo shot to left field plated the Fightins only run of the game.
McArthur and Akron's starter Juan Hillman (W, 1-1) battled the first few innings, limiting hits as the game became a pitchers duel.
McArthur allowed one run to score during his outing as Richie Palacios crossed the plate on a wild pitch after walking to first base.
The RubberDuck bats were quiet for a while, until they notched a few hits off of R-Phils reliever Colton Eastman. Eastman (L, 0-2) came into the game during the fifth, but let up two runs in the six as Palacios and Andruw Monasterio touched home.
Reading had a few opportunities to score throughout the contest as they went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.
Jonathan Hennigan threw one inning of relief in the eight allowing just a walk.
Juan Mota and Nick Mikolajchak both came out of the 'pen for Akron. Neither of them let up a hit, while Mota struck out three and Mikolajchak (S, 1) took the save.
