Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC (13-6-10, 49 pts) end their 2016 USL regular season when they travel to Oklahoma to face Tulsa Roughnecks FC (5-19-4, 19 pts) on Saturday, Sept. 24. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. PT. The match will be streamed live on SacRepublicFC.com/matchday and YouTube.com/USL.
This is the first and only meeting between Republic FC and the Roughnecks this season. Republic FC won both of the meetings between the two sides in 2015, each by a score of 3-1.
Republic FC recorded their second consecutive 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy II on Saturday, Sept. 17, tying their franchise record for longest unbeaten streak at ten consecutive matches. Republic FC's last loss was to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on July 24. Republic FC have three ten-match unbeaten streaks in franchise history, the most recent spanning from the end of the 2015 season through the beginning of the 2016 USL season.
Wilson Kneeshaw scored his second consecutive match-tying goal in the 80th minute or later with a goal off a rebound on Saturday against Los Dos. Kneeshaw has three goals on the season, in just 98 minutes played, all as a substitute. The forward has three shots this season, all goals.
Danny Barrera made his 45th consecutive USL appearance with his start against Los Dos on Saturday, a Republic FC record. On Saturday, Barrera will attempt to become the first player in Republic FC history to record double-digit assists in a single USL season. The midfielder is currently tied with Portland Timbers 2's Villyan Bijev for most assists in the USL this season.
Republic FC will win the USL Western Conference regular season title with a win over the Roughnecks and a draw or a loss by Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC who will play Orange County Blues FC. Switchbacks FC hold the tiebreaker, most regular season wins, should the two teams tie atop the Western Conference after Saturday's results.
The Roughnecks enter the match on a nine-match winless streak dating back to July 30. The Roughnecks have lost eight of the nine matches during the stretch and have been outscored 20-3.
Sammy Ochoa has been key to the Roughnecks' offense this season, leading the club in both goals and assists, both by wide margins. Ochoa has 11 goals and six assists on the season. Ochoa had nine goals and three assists last season for the Roughnecks, giving him 20 goals and nine assists since joining Tulsa at the start of the 2015 USL season.
Tulsa-native Cristian Mata joins Ochoa as the only players in Roughnecks' history to score double-digit goals since the club started play last season. Mata has four goals and two assists this season. The forward scored six goals and added an assist after joining the Roughnecks mid-season during the 2015 campaign.
