September 23, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX- San Antonio FC (10-11-8) will travel to face Rio Grande Valley FC (13-7-9) at Toro Stadium in Edinburg, TX on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. with a chance to make the USL playoffs. The match will be the final bout of both teams' inaugural campaigns, and carries significant postseason implications for both.
Coverage of the match will be available at SanAntonioFC.com and the USL Match Center.
San Antonio FC will aim to earn their first win against the Toros in their final effort to secure a Western Conference playoff spot. The team is currently in eighth place in the standings with four teams trailing by three points or less. A win would secure the last playoff spot in the conference for SAFC, while a draw or loss would severely hinder their chances.
Rio Grande Valley FC secured their playoff berth earlier this season, however the Toros still have much to play for as the third-place club fights to earn three points at home to climb to the top of the table. A first-place seed would guarantee the club home field advantage in their first playoff run.
The match will be the fourth edition of the South Texas Derby in competitive play. SAFC previously recorded a draw and two losses against RGV, scoring twice while conceding four goals overall in those matches. The Alamo City club will travel to Edinburg for just the second time in franchise history.
San Antonio FC heads into the match in good form after earning a 2-0 win at home against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the final home match of their inaugural campaign. Goals from Franck Tayou and Shawn Chin, as well as a penalty save from goalkeeper Matt Cardone, ensured the team a shutout victory in front of their fans. RGV FC earned a 1-0 win away from home against OC Blues last weekend.
SAFC and RGV FC have everything to play for as the two conclude their run in the regular season. The Alamo City club must earn a win on Saturday to earn their way into the playoffs, and would then face either Sacramento Republic FC or Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the first round.
Game 30 - San Antonio FC at Rio Grande Valley FC Toros Date: Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. central Stadium: HEB Park Training Ground (Edinburg, TX)

Rio Grande Valley FC Toros: 13-7-9, 48 pts (3rd place)
All-time Series: The game marks the fourth matchup between the SAFC and RGV FC. SAFC previously recorded a draw and a loss at Toyota Field against the Toros, and then a loss in Edinburg.
