What's the latest on the team?
Republic FC (2-2-0, 6 points) started the season with two straight wins and after two tough results, Mark Briggs' men will be hoping to secure all three points for the third time in 2021 when Roots SC visit Sacramento.
Over the weekend, the Indomitable Club welcomed Phoenix Rising FC to Sacramento with the visitors heading back to Arizona with a 1-0 win. A second half strike from Santi Moar ultimately was the difference and brought Rising FC's goalscoring drought against Republic FC in Sacramento to an end at 625 consecutive minutes.
Despite the result, Republic FC still maintains its hold on fourth place in the Pacific Division during the early stages of the 2021 campaign with six points from four fixtures.
Wednesday night's match will be SRFC's second match in a four-game run spanning a dozen days.
In the last week, the Indomitable Club acquired two defenders on-loan from MLS clubs, Nabi Kibunguchy from Minnesota United and Chris Gloster from NYCFC.
What about the visitors?
Roots SC has only logged two matches in the 2021 season but managed to claim all three points in its most recent one.
On May 23, Oakland secured a dramatic 3-2 win on the road against LA Galaxy II. On two occasions, Roots SC fell behind by a goal but managed to find an equalizer each time before netting the game-winner deep in stoppage time by way of Jeremy Bokila. Joining Bolia on the scoresheet against Los Dos was Luis Flores and Guillermo Diaz.
To start the season, Oakland was handed a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Phoenix Rising FC in Arizona on May 8.
Head-to-Head
This is it, the first-ever regular season fixture between the two Northern California neighbors.
In 2020, the two clubs were slated to clash in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup before the competition was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the 2021 preseason, Oakland paid a visit to Sacramento for a closed-door exhibition match with Mark Briggs' men posting a 5-1 win. Midfielder Jaime Villarreal lead the offensive charge with a pair of goals while Dariusz Formella converted from the penalty spot and Cameron Iwasa and Tucker Bone each netted during open play.
