New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. (June 16, 2015) - The New York Red Bulls are set to enter the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup field with a fourth-round match against the Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League tonight at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with www.newyorkredbulls.com providing a live stream of the action. The Red Bulls will also provide English and Spanish language radio broadcasts through www.newyorkredbulls.com
The Red Bulls have had an up-and-down start to 2015 in league play - opening the season 4-1-5 before dropping three straight, including tough back-to-back road games at Seattle (2-1) and Houston (4-2). New York held second-half leads in both of those contests before surrendering late second half goals.
Atlanta concluded the spring portion of the NASL season on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Rowdies are in last place after 10 games with a 1-5-4 record.
The Silverbacks entered the Open Cup in the third round, going on the road to face Chattanooga FC for the second consecutive year. Atlanta overcame an 83rd minute goal by striking in stoppage time before finding the winner in extra time.
In 2014, the Silverbacks enjoyed a dream run through the Open Cup field, defeating two MLS sides, Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids, on their way to the tournament's quarterfinals.
The Silverbacks are one of just two NASL teams remaining in the competition. The New York Cosmos will take on New York City FC tomorrow evening.
