IRVINE, Calif. (March 27, 2015) - Orange County's professional soccer team begins their 2015 USL season Saturday night, March 28th. Kickoff for OC Blues FC vs Arizona United SC is set for 7 p.m. at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium, and gates open at 5:30 p.m.
The Blues are going into their second season representing Orange County. Several players from the 2014 season are returning, as well as new talent ready to take the squad to a higher level. Head Coach Oliver Wyss and his staff have worked tirelessly during preseason to prepare the team for the a grueling 28-game regular season slate. Players to watch for the home side are Swiss midfielder Didier Crettenand and Dutch winger Denzel Slager. Crettenand comes with over 12 years of pro experience in the Swiss Super League, and has scored three goals during the preseason friendlies. Slager is a speedy winger from Holland who last played for English League One side Coventry City.
Arizona United SC finished the 2014 season in 9th place, just short of qualifying for the playoffs, posting a record of 10-5-13. The Scottsdale, Ariz. based club is affiliated with Major League Soccer's FC Dallas, and their player to watch is forward Long Tan, who scored five goals after signing mid-season.
The final match between the Blues and United in 2014 ended in a 3-0 shutout in favor of Arizona, but the two clubs split the season series, 2-2. With a new head coach and many new players, the Blues are looking to put on a great show for fans and show off the team's improvement since last season.
Fans are advised to arrive early due to the high traffic expected. All fans in attendance will receive a 2015 OC Blues FC magnet schedule.
