Rochester Rhinos News Release

Rochester, NY - The Rochester Rhinos open the 2015 season on the road Saturday, March 28th against the USL expansion side New York Red Bulls II. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm and the match will be broadcasted live on Youtube.com from Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Saturday's season opener marks the first of three meetings between the two sides and could be the start to a new rivalry. The match scheduled for tomorrow is the opening match of the 2015 season for both clubs.

The Rhinos look to build off the momentum from the 2014 season in which head coach Bob Lilley revamped the roster and brought the team back to the playoffs after missing them for the first time in the franchise history in 2013. Lilley and the Rhinos have seven players returning from the 2014 squad and are awaiting the arrival of Onua Thomas Obasi from the Baltimore Blast. Defensive midfielder Tony Walls and right back Pat McMahon return to a defensive unit that surrendered the second fewest goals in the league in 2014.

It's been busy in the Rhinos front office as 2015 MLS Combine MVP Christian Volesky, former Colorado Rapids center back Grant Van de Casteele, and German Youth National team product Julian Ringhof highlight eleven new signings that have been registered in the past week.

"We have a lot to be encouraged about heading into the 2015 season this weekend. We've got a group of guys here who have a great chemistry together, and who are working hard to get better every day in training. We scored a lot of goals during the preseason, and we're scoring goals every day during training, so I think we've got some attacking pieces in place this season. We're ahead of where we were last year, but early results seem to indicate that the league is going to be better than it was last season as well. We're looking forward to getting started on Saturday in Red Bull Arena," Lilley stated.

The New York Red Bulls II are owned and operated by the New York Red Bulls (MLS) and will play their home games at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

"We are proud about this important moment in the history of our organization," Curtis said. "This platform will integrate coaches, players and staff at all levels from the Academy, USL PRO and First Team as we are excited to start competing at the USL PRO level this season," Team Sporting Director Ali Curtis stated in January.

The Rhinos continue to travel over the next month before the 2015 home opener against the New York Red Bulls II on Sunday, April 26th at Sahlen's Stadium. Kickoff for this match is scheduled for 2:05pm!
