Hammerheads Set for Home Opener March 28
March 27, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC will open the 2015 USL regular season on Saturday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. ET as they welcome the Richmond Kickers to Legion Stadium.
"It is a new season with new challenges, new players, and what is very much a new team," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "We are happy with the work that we have done during preseason, but now we have points to play for on Saturday night and that really lifts the intensity to a level that no preseason game or practice can match."
The Hammerheads concluded their 2014 USL season with an overall record of 9-9-11 after entering the first round of playoffs against Sacramento Republic FC whom later took a 4-1 victory and went on to claim the championship title to finish their inaugural season in USL. The Kickers finished third in the league with an overall record of 14-3-12 and were eventually knocked out of the playoffs by the Harrisburg City Islanders in the semifinal round.
Porter joined the Hammerheads mid-season last year as Technical Director following his time with U.S. Soccer. He soon after acquired coaching responsibilities, leading the team under his direction as they finished out the season.
"The first game I watched when I joined the club was versus Richmond at Legion Stadium last summer," said Porter. "They have good players, a dangerous group of goal-scorers, and will demand a good performance from us in order to get a result."
Saturday's matchup will be the first of three meetings between Richmond and Wilmington during the regular season. The match will be broadcast live from Legion Stadium on the Hammerheads' YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/WilmHammerheadsFC.
Season ticket packages and single tickets are available for purchase online. For more information regarding Wilmington Hammerheads FC, please contact (910) 777-2111 or visit www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
