Match Preview: Legion FC V. Indy Eleven - Friday, September 20

September 19, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Birmingham Legion FC News Release

Birmingham Legion FC vs. Indy Eleven

Friday, September 20 - 7:00 PM Kickoff - BBVA Field, Birmingham, AL

Watch - ESPN+, Tape-Delayed on CW21

Legion FC looks to regain some momentum and kick off a new winning streak back home at BBVA Field vs Indy. Gates to the Legion FC Plaza open at 5:30 for a HICA Hispanic Heritage Night celebration. Publix will be on site giving away 750 free t-shirts before the match.

BHM has seven shutouts and has outscored opponents 17-6 in the last eleven matches, but with recent losses to STL and NSH, the team is just one point above the playoff line with six matches to play.

Indy Eleven currently sits in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference standings but are tied on points with first place New York with two games in hand. The first time these two teams met, Indy won at home 3-0 in May on the back of an own goal from BHM and goals by Tyler Pasher and former player Thomas Enevoldsen.

IND has solidified its spot at the top of the Eastern Conference by riding the best defense in the league. On the year the team has given up just 20 goals in 27 matches. Going forward the visitors are a little more hit or miss, having scored 41 times, but the attack is spearheaded by Tyler Pasher, who leads the team in goals with ten. Otherwise, they spread the wealth, as the USL Championship's all-time leading goal scorer, Dane Kelly, is tops in shots (60), Kenney Walker leads in assists (4), and Ayoze is first in key passes (65) from his right wing-back spot.

#9 Chandler Hoffman (ruptured PCL), #13 Tyler Savitsky (groin), #16 Daigo Kobayashi (knee), #27 Eddie Opoku (ankle), and #88 Femi Hollinger-Janzen (concussion) remain out for Legion FC, per the VIVA Health injury report. #11 JJ Williams is also unavailable for selection after picking up a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.

After a much-deserved break, BHM returns to action in Kansas City versus the Swope Park Rangers on Monday, September 30 at 7:00 PM CT. Follow @bhmlegion on Twitter for live game updates from Kansas, and watch live on ESPN+.

The boys next home match is Saturday, October 5 at 7:00PM versus the Charleston Battery. As of this week, the Battery are in 11th, just one point behind Legion FC in the tenth and final playoff spot, so with only five games remaining on the schedule the clash with Charleston could be the most important match of the season. Tickets are available at or by calling the Legion FC Ticket Office at 205-791-7145.
