Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to action Sunday when it hosts Eastern Conference opponent New England Revolution at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the club's final match of the regular season. The match, presented by AT&T, is set to kick-off at 4 p.m. ET and will be televised on FOX Sports Southeast. For all statistics and media information, please visit our Media Resources page and Game Notes.
Atlanta sits in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with 55 points heading into Decision Day and can clinch the No. 2 seed with a win, or a Philadelphia Union loss, or earning the same result as Philadelphia, who hosts New York City FC. With a win against New England, Atlanta would finish the season with the most points by a defending champion since 2000 (non-shootout era), surpassing Real Salt Lake's 56-point tally from 2010.
New England clinched the seventh and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference on Sunday with a 2-0 win at home against NYCFC. This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the two sides and Atlanta owns a 3-0-2 record, including a 2-0-0 record at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. New England is 3-5-8 on the road in 2019. In the first meeting in 2019 at Gillette Stadium in April, Ezequiel Barco scored twice to lead Atlanta to a 2-0 victory and its first away win of the season. Josef Martinez leads Atlanta with four goals against the Revolution and Tito Villalba leads the team with three assists.
Atlanta is coming off a 1-1 draw at Montreal Impact on Sunday at Stade Saputo. Julian Gressel scored his fifth goal of the season in the 53rd minute to match his single-season high in goals scored while Emerson Hyndman recorded his third assist of the season. Captain Michael Parkhurst made his 300th career MLS appearance against Montreal and his final regular season game will be against the club where he began his professional career in 2005.
