ATLANTA - Atlanta United will face Club América Wednesday night in Mexico City at Estadio Azteca in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Atlanta is coming off a 2-1 win against FC Cincinnati at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 7 in its MLS home opener. With an attendance of 69,301, the club now holds the Top 10 most attended matches in MLS regular season history. Ezequiel Barco and Emerson Hyndman scored for the second consecutive match.
Each of Hyndman's three goals for Atlanta in MLS play have been game-winning goals: Week 1 against Nashville SC, Week 2 against FC Cincinnati and against San Jose in 2019 (3-1).
Barco scored his 10th career MLS goal against FC Cincinnati. Atlanta holds a 7-1-1 record when the Argentine scores.
Atlanta defeated FC Motagua 4-1 on aggregate in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 with two goals each from Josef Martinez and Pity MartÃÂnez.
Jeff Larentowicz leads all Atlanta players with 12 CCL appearances.
Atlanta is 3-2-1 all-time in CCL play and 0-2-1 in away matches.
Atlanta is 1-0-0 all-time against Club América, having defeated Las ÃÂguilas 3-2 in the Campeones Cup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium August 14, 2019. Atlanta became the first MLS team to lift the trophy thanks to goals from Hyndman, Larentowicz and Josef Martinez.
Club América, managed by Miguel Herrera, defeated Comunicaciones in the Round of 16. After both legs ended 1-1, América won the ensuing penalty shoot-out 5-3.
Club América sits in third place in Liga MX through nine matches (5-2-2) and is coming off a 3-3 draw away to Pumas UNAM Friday, March 6.
Las ÃÂguilas have won a record 13 Liga MX titles and a record seven CCL titles, having last won the CCL in 2016.
The return leg will be played March 18 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia at 8:15 p.m. ET.
