ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Charlotte Independence at Fifth Third Stadium in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32, Atlanta's opening match of the 2024 competition. The match is set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ussoccer.com, while fans can also tune-in to radio calls on 92.9 The Game and La Mejor.
Tuesday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. The Independence play in USL League One where the team currently sits in third place with a 3-1-1 record. While this will be Atlanta's first match of the 2024 U.S. Open Cup, Charlotte has already picked up three wins to advance to the Round of 32.
Atlanta is one of eight MLS teams and 95 total clubs from all levels of soccer in the United States to be participating in this year's tournament, the 109th edition on the U.S. Open Cup.
Atlanta was placed in the Alonso Division and with a win would advance to play away against the winner of South Georgia Tormenta FC and Charleston Battery in the Round of 16.
Atlanta won the U.S. Open Cup in 2019, winning five games in the tournament and defeating Minnesota United 2-1 in the final. Overall, the club has an all-time record of 8-4 in the competition.
