Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Frederick, MD - Four Winston-Salem pitcher combined to blank Frederick as the Dash claimed a 1-0 win over the Keys on Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium. It was the first 1-0 victory of the season for Winston-Salem, who extended their winnings streak to three games.
Dash hurler Miguel Socolovich, who was making his first start of the season after 24 relief appearances, tossed four shutout innings and limited the Keys to three hits. He failed to register a walk or strikeout and did not figure in the decision.
The bullpen was equally impressive as Wander Perez (2-1) took over and worked two perfect innings to collect the win. Nate Jones followed with a pair of hitless frames before Tyson Corley recorded the final three outs to garner his third save of the season. At one point, Dash pitchers retired 16 consecutive batters as they improved Winston-Salem to a league-best 27-13 in games decided by a run.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Winston-Salem plated the lone run of the contest. Tyler Kuhn reached on a four-pitch walk and stole second base. After a ground out moved Kuhn to third, Seth Loman drilled an RBI double down the right field line to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead. It would be all the offense the Dash would need.
Keys starting pitcher Zach Britton (8-6), who is second in the league in ERA and strikeouts, was stellar on the mound, but suffered the tough-luck loss. He went seven innings and held Winston-Salem to a run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
The Dash and Keys conclude this three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. Winston-Salem will hand the ball to RHP Jacob Rasner (3-4, 4.26) while Frederick is expected to counter with RHP Sean Gleason (3-6, 4.96). The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Dash returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Tuesday, August 18 when they open a four-game, three-day series with a doubleheader against the Potomac Nationals. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. For more information on all the upcoming promotions or to purchase single-game tickets, visit www.wsdash.com or by call the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
