Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Pelicans used a solid start from lefty Cole Rohrbough to claim a 4-2 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats at City Stadium.

For the second straight night the Pelicans used first inning runs to claim an early lead on the Hillcats. Following a one-out single by Michael Fisher, Donell Linares blasted his ninth home run of the season to stake the Pelicans to a 2-0 advantage.

With Chase d'Arnaud at second base, Jordy Mercer reached on an error by Robert Marcial to continue the inning. D'Arnaud scored on the play to pull the Hillcats within one. They tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Jared Keel. That would be the only earned run that Rohrbough would allow.

The Pelicans would go up for good in the sixth. Fisher scored from third when Jesus Sucre grounded into a bases loaded double play. Chris Shehan followed that up with an RBI double which plated Linares from third and gave the Birds all they would need.

Rohrbough (5-7) was finished after allowing the two runs, one earned, on only five hits over six innings to earn the win. Saturday night's start was Rohrbough's only appearance this season in which he did not issue a walk.

Cory Gearrin recorded the final five outs for the Pelicans to earn his second save in as many nights. Hillcat starter Matt McSwain (9-8) was handed the loss after allowing all four Pelican runs over five and two-thirds innings.

The Pelicans go for the series sweep Sunday evening at City Stadium. The Pelicans will send right-hander Erik Cordier to the mound against lefty Justin Wilson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
