
Martinez sets IronBirds RBI mark, leads 'Birds to win

Aberdeen, MD- Anthony Martinez had three hits, drove in three runs and set a franchise single season RBI record to lead Aberdeen past Oneonta 5-3 on Thursday at Ripken Stadium.
Martinez doubled in the first inning, homered in the third and doubled again in the fifth. Martinez's RBI double in the first inning was his 48th RBI of the season and shattered Chris Vinyard's record set last year.
Martinez and Robbie Widlansky hit back-to-back RBI doubles off Oneonta starter Brandon Johnson in the first inning as Aberdeen took a 2-0 lead.
Martinez then hit his fourth home run of the season to left-center in the third inning and followed with an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Johnson (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits in five innings. He walked three and stuck out four.
Aberdeen starter Aubrey Miller threw a quality start in his final outing of the season. Miller (3-5) gave up two runs on three hits over six innings for his second consecutive win.
Game Notes- IronBirds catcher Justin Johnson caught two Oneonta runners trying to steal...Aberdeen outfielder Matt Angle stole two bases and is now tied with Vermont's Boomer Whiting for the league lead with 34 stolen bases...LHP Zach Britton starts for Aberdeen in Friday's season finale.
