Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, NY -Jorge Martinez was the difference in the series finale between the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, and the Jamestown Jammers Monday morning. His home run in the top of the tenth inning proved to be the difference in the Scrappers 2-1 victory.

After the Jammers offense exploded Sunday afternoon, they were held in check by Mahoning Valley starter Luis DeJesus. DeJesus would throw five innings, and allowed no runs on only three hits.

Jamestown did manage to push a run across in the bottom of the sixth against Scrapper reliever Jordan Carter. With one out in the inning, center fielder Carl Anderson tripled down the right field line. He was then driven in on a single by second basemen Erik Lunde.

However, Mahoning Valley, and Jorge Martinez would answer back in the top of the eighth. Martinez connected on the first pitch of his at-bat against Jammer reliever Montana DuRapau, and sent one over the right field wall to tie the game up.

The score would remain tied until the top of the tenth when Martinez again connected for a home run, but this time it was off Jammer reliever Eric Dorsch.

In the bottom of the tenth, Jammers shortstop Michael Fransoso nearly tied the game on a homerun, but the ball landed just foul down the right field line.

Anderson, Lunde, Taylor Gushue, Kevin Ross, and Chase Simpson picked up the five hits for the Jammers.

The Jammers will travel to Williamsport for a three game series, starting tomorrow. The probable starters for the Jammers will be Austin Coley (8th round pick in 2014) Tuesday night, Frank Duncan (13th round pick in 2014) Wednesday night, and Marek Minarik Thursday night in the series finale.
