Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Fernando Martinez drove in three and Jose Coronado scored a pair and drove in a pair, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 9-7 win over the Reading Phillies at FirstEnergy Stadium Wednesday. The win is Binghamton's second straight.
Binghamton (13-20) didn't trail after a three-run third. Rafael Arroyo began the inning with a single off Shane Youman. Bobby Parnell bunted Arroyo to second and Martinez's groundout moved him to third before Coronado lined a single up the middle, scoring Arroyo. Daniel Murphy followed with a two-run homer to right for a 3-0 Binghamton advantage.
Reading (15-17) responded in the bottom of the inning, thanks to Lou Marson's two-run double that pulled the Phillies within 3-2. However, Binghamton got to Youman (0-1) again in the fourth. Singles by Mike Carp and Caleb Stewart and an Emmanuel Garcia walk loaded the bases with nobody out. Three batters later, Martinez pulled a single to right, scoring Carp and Stewart to increase Binghamton's lead to 5-2. Martinez added a triple in the sixth that scored Salvador Paniagua, who reached with a pinch-hit double, to make it 6-2 B-Mets.
Parnell (2-2) allowed two runs over five innings before giving way to Eddie Camacho, whose errant pickoff throw in the seventh allowed two Reading runs to score, cutting Binghamton's lead to 6-4. The B-Mets responded by tallying three more in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Jonathan Malo began the frame with a double and scored on Coronado's single. After Murphy walked, Carp drove both runners in with a double to right that increased the lead to 9-4.
Jason Donald's three-run homer off the B-Mets' Tim Lavigne in the bottom of the ninth capped off the scoring.
Thursday, the B-Mets play the final game of a four-game series against the Reading Phillies. Salvador Aguilar (1-0, 4.23) will start for Binghamton against lefty Antonio Bastardo (1-0, 1.59) of Reading. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: Parnell won for the second straight start. B-Mets starters have allowed three runs over the last two games (10 1/3 IP) after being charged with 24 runs over the previous three contests (10 2/3 IP)...eight of Binghamton's nine runs scored with two out...the B-Mets won back-to-back games once before - 4/11-14 when they won a season-high three straight.
