
Coke stellar in 6-0 Trenton win over Erie

(Erie, PA)- Thunder starting pitcher Phil Coke went five shutout innings for his second consecutive win as Trenton defeated Erie 6-0 on Wednesday night in a rain-shortened game at Jerry Uht Park. Trenton has now won six games in a row.
Trenton (22-12) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by DH Colin Curtis. CF Austin Jackson scored after tripling off of Erie starting pitcher Danny Christensen (0-4). The Thunder extended the lead to 3-0 in the 4th inning on a two-out two-run triple by 2B Reegie Corona. Trenton made it 5-0 in the 5th inning on a 2-run home run by LF Edwar Gonzalez. The home run was Gonzalez's first for Trenton. The Thunder completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly RBI by SS Ramiro Pena in the 6th inning. Play was halted with two outs in the 6th inning after the run was scored.
Jackson and 3B Carlos Mendoza each scored two runs in the win for the Thunder. RF Jose Tabata extended his hitting streak to five games with a single in the 2nd inning. Coke (2-1) scattered 4 hits and did not give up a run over 5 IP. He struck out 7 and did not walk a batter. Coke has now tossed 15.2 scoreless IP in a row. Christensen went 5.1 IP and gave up 9 H and 6 runs (5 earned). Trenton will go for the four-game sweep on Thursday morning at 11:05 am. RHP Jason Jones (4-0, 2.19) will start for Trenton against Erie RHP Josh Rainwater (2-1, 4.74).
