Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSON, Ten. - J.D. Martin (1-4) bedeviled the Jackson Generals (18-9) over 7.2 innings on the way to his first victory of the season as the Biscuits (11-17) cruised to a 6-2 victory in game three on Friday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The 35-year-old Martin, who is still transitioning to a knuckleballer, flustered the Generals all evening and outpitched the Diamondbacks number four prospect Taylor Widener (0-1) on a cool night in West Tennessee. Both starters breezed through the first three frames, with Widener holding the Biscuits hitless.

In the fourth, however, Jake Cronenworth doubled, and after a Dalton Kelly groundout, Nick Solak socked an RBI-triple into right field to put the Biscuits up 1-0 against Widener. The next batter was Brandon Lowe, and the Rays number 15 prospect didn't miss, clubbing an opposite-field two-run homer over the 16-foot-high left field wall to triple the Biscuits lead to 3-0. Lowe now has nine RBIs over the last three games.

Biscuits designated hitter Mike Brosseau swatted his second home run of the year off Generals reliever Joel Payamps in the seventh to add some insurance, and a Marcus Littlewood passed ball and a Lowe sac fly had the Biscuits up 6-0 midway through eight. The Biscuits would finish the night with eight hits and two of each kind: two home runs, two triples, two doubles, and two singles, and started the night with six extra-base hits before Cronenworth's single in the eighth.

Martin would lose the shutout in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI-groundout by Jason Morozowski and a Mac James passed ball, but Mike Franco got Kevin Medrano to ground out with runners at second and third to end the eighth, and retired the Generals in order in the ninth to seal the win.

The Biscuits will try to win their second-straight series on Saturday night when Eduar Lopez (1-2) goes up against Ryan Atkinson (1-2) at 6:05 PM.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium on Monday, May 7 to face the Biloxi Shuckers at the start of a 10-game home stand that will feature Craft Beer Night on Wednesday, May 9, Nurses Appreciation Night featuring a T-Shirt giveaway presented by Shaw Technology on Thursday, May 10, and Family Faith Night with Faith Radio Pre-Game Concert & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 11.
