Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m.
Utility player Mason Davis has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Davis has played in 14 games for the Jumbo Shrimp this season, hitting .295 (13-for-44) with six doubles, three triples, and six runs batted in.
In a corresponding move, infielder Cito Culver has been transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. Culver has played in 18 games for the Baby Cakes, hitting .155 with no home runs and five runs batted in with a pair of doubles. This is Culver's first season in the Marlins organization, after he was signed by Miami as a minor league free agent in January. Culver previously played in the New York Yankees organization from 2010-2017, and he was a first round pick by New York out of high school in 2010.
Additionally, left-handed relief pitcher James Buckelew has been transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Jacksonville. Buckelew pitched in six games for the Baby Cakes, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA, striking out nine batters in 13 and a third innings of work. Buckelew pitched for Jacksonville last year, going 0-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 14 appearances and one start, and he also made one relief outing for Jacksonville in 2016.
The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, plus Elieser Hernandez on his major league rehab assignment from the Miami Marlins and a revised roster is attached.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Shuckers will continue their series with the third game of the five-game set Friday night at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Elieser Hernandez (0-0, 1.80 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Biloxi right-handed starter Zack Brown (1-0, 4.44 ERA). Fans can listen to the game on the Jumbo Shrimp Network presented by Community First, beginning at 7:20 p.m. with the pregame show "Shrimp On Deck" locally on Sunny 102.3 FM, on the TuneIn Radio app, and www.jaxshrimp.com.
