Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their series finale against the Chattanooga Lookouts by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings Friday night in front of 8,084 fans at Regions Field.

Christian Marrero broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a line-drive two-runhome run to right field, giving the Barons a 2-0 lead.

Starter Mike Recchia cruised through the Lookouts lineup for much of his outing, allowing a run on four hits over 6.0 IP while striking out four. He was replaced in the 7th by David Cales who promptly surrendered a solo home run to Scott Schebler, tying the game at 2-2.

Marrero would strike again in the bottom half of the inning, swatting his second two-run homer of the night into nearly the exact same location. Marerro, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI in Thursday's 9-4 win, finished 2-for-4 on Friday with two home runs and four RBI. He leads the Barons with six home runs this season.

The Barons were unable to hold the lead again as Chattanooga tied the game at 4-4 in the 8th on a solo home run by O'Koyea Dickson and an RBI groundout by Noel Cuevas against reliever Ryan Kussmaul.

The game would go to extra innings with the Lookouts taking their first lead on a fielders choice groundout by Noel Cuevas, scoring Schebler from third base against Kevin Vance (3-1, 4.32).

The Barons looked poised for another Regions Field walk-off win, loading the bases with one out in the bottom half of the inning. However, reliever Juan RamonNoriega struck out Jeremy Farrell and Keenyn Walker to end the game.

Michael Earely finished 0-for-1 on the night with a season-high four walks. They were the most walks by a Barons since Marcus Semien drew four against Mobile on July 27th, 2013.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 23-32 while Chattanooga improved to 21-34 on the season. The Barons will head on the road Saturday for a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies. They'll send RHP Nick McCully (2-5, 6.95) to the hill in game one against RHP Joel Pineiro (0-1, 5.87). First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 PM CDT.
