Mobile and Jackson Split Twin Bill Thursday Night

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears improved to 32-21, splitting a doubleheader with the Jackson Generals Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears took game one 2-1 but dropped game two 4-1. Mobile is now 2-4 in doubleheaders in 2014 and with the Mississippi Braves and Pensacola Blue Wahoo's game postponed due to rain Thursday, the BayBears remain in first place with the M-Braves 1.5 games back of Mobile in the Southern League South Division.

RHP Willie Paredes took the bump for the start in game one and the right hand reliever allowed just one run on two hits over 3.1 innings. The Generals scored the one run on Paredes when Patrick Kivlehan reached on a fielders choice allowing Ketel Marte to cross home plate in the top of the fourth.

The BayBears responded in the bottom half of the inning when Garrett Weber singled and Raywilly Gomez hit a two-run home run to give the BayBears a 2-1 lead. LHP Patrick Schuster (2-0) entered the game for Paredes in the top of the first and earned the win, allowing just one hit while walking two over 1.2 innings. RHP Jake Barrett recorded the final four outs of the game, earning his ninth save of the season.

Mobile scored first in game two when Steve Rodriguez was at the plate, Generals catcher Mike Dowd made a throwing error on a pickoff attempt to third that allowed Jon Griffin to score. In the third inning, Kivlehan put Jackson in front 3-1 with a three-run homer. The Generals added another run in the sixth to push their lead to 4-1. RHP Charles Brewer (1-1) was credited wit the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

The BayBears conclude their series with the Generals on Friday at 7:05 PM. RHP Mike Lee (3-3, 3.97) will take the hill for the BayBears, while the Generals start LHP Cam Hobson (4-4, 3.40).
