Huntsville Stars News Release
Huntsville, AL - Andy Moye threw six shutout innings leading the Huntsville Stars to a 5-1 win Friday night over the Tennessee Smokies at Joe Davis Stadium. With the Stars win, they completed a five game series sweep over the Smokies.
Moye, who improved to 1-0 gave up just one hit in his six innings. It was a two out double to Anthony Giansanti.
The Stars got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning against Smokies starter Julio Rodrigue(1-1). Mitch Haniger led off with a walk. Kentrail Davis then got the Stars first hit of the game on a bunt single up the third base line.
With Haniger and Davis on the bases, Rodriguez issued a wild pitch which moved the runners to second and third. On the wild pitch, catcher Rafael Lopez threw to third trying to get Haniger. His throw sailed over third baseman Kris Bryant. Haniger scored giving the Stars a 1-0 lead.
Latter in the inning, Moye executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt up the first baseline scoring Davis.
In the sixth, Stars first baseman Nick Ramirez launched a solo homerun over the right field wall. It was Ramirez's second homer of the series, his fifth against the Smokies this season and his tenth homer of the year.
Later in the sixth the Stars made it 4-0 when Shea Vucinich reached on a fielder's choice scoring Haniger.
Davis added a sacrifice fly in the eighth giving the Stars a 5-0 advantage.
