Marlies Drop Griffins on Milestone Afternoon in Toronto

The Toronto Marlies defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, by a score of 5-0 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, Keith Aucoin gave Toronto a 1-0 lead, 20 seconds into the middle frame. The goal marked Aucoin's 800th career AHL point, moving him into sole possession of 11th all-time on the AHL scoring list. Nazem Kadri would record his seventh goal of the season at 6:59, giving the Marlies a 2-0 lead. Aucoin then tallied his second goal of the afternoon on a powerplay with three seconds left in the period, pushing Toronto's lead to 3-0. The Marlies would add two goals in less than 45 seconds during the third period to secure a 5-0 victory. With the shutout, Jussi Rynnas moved into sole possession of first place on the all-time Toronto Marlies shutout list.

Toronto will travel to Cleveland for a Wednesday night game with the Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
