IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Springfield Falcons finish out their three-in-three stretch when they travel to Manchester to face the Monarchs at 3:00 p.m. The Falcons earned a point in an overtime defeat on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center, as Ryan Johansen scored with 27.1 seconds remaining in regulation to send Springfield to the sudden-death period before it fell to the St. John's IceCaps, 3-2. Ivan Telegin registered the overtime winner for St. John's. In his 2012-2013 AHL debut, Falcons netminder Allen York stopped 21 of 24 shots. The Falcons kept their six-point lead on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by advancing past regulation.
Springfield returns to Manchester for the first time since overcoming a three-goal, third-period deficit by scoring five times to capture a compelling 5-4 victory over the Monarchs on Nov. 30.
Coverage of today's game starts at 2:45 p.m. on WHYN 560 AM, WHYN.com, the iHeartRadio App, or AHLLive.com. The contest can also be heard on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio (Sirius 207/XM 92).
After venturing to Portland and Hershey, the Falcons return home on Thursday, Dec. 27 to host the Albany Devils at the MassMutual Center at 7:00 p.m.
Single-game tickets to see the Falcons in 2012-2013 can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through game time on Saturday home dates, and starting four hours prior to Sunday home contests. Fans can also purchase tickets by logging onto Ticketmaster.com. For information about discounted group packages to Falcons home games, call (413) 739-GOAL (4625).
ATKINSON EXTENDS STREAK
With an assist on Ryan Johansen's tying tally, Cam Atkinson increased his point streak to seven games on Saturday (6g-6a). Atkinson's point streak is the second-longest by a Falcon this season to David Savard, who collected a goal or an assist in eight-straight outings from Nov. 11 to Nov. 30. The second-year pro leads the Falcons with 28 points and 14 goals and is third in the AHL in both categories. His five game-winning tallies are tied for the most in the league.
STILL NEAR THE TOP
Despite having his four-game point streak come to an end on Saturday, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault is tied for third in the AHL with a Falcons-best 19 assists.
POST-REGULATION DIFFICULTIES
The Falcons are one of two teams along with the Albany Devils to have not won a game following regulation this year. Springfield dropped to 0-2 in sudden-death overtime on Saturday to go along with its 0-3 shootout record this season. The Falcons have not earned a sudden-death OT win since Nov. 16, 2011 against Worcester. Springfield last prevailed in a shootout on Mar. 23, 2012 at home versus Bridgeport.
