
Kolanos, Brust Lead Heat to Shootout Win

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat defeated the Texas Stars 2-1 in a shootout at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) in their final home game of 2012 on Saturday night.
Krys Kolanos scored a power play goal in regulation and added the shootout winner. Barry Brust stopped all but one shot through 65 minutes to earn his eighth win in ten starts this season. The victory keeps the Heat in top spot in the Western Conference with 36 points.
Matt Fraser opened the scoring for the Stars on a five-on-three power play at 5:13 of the second period. Jordie Benn and Cody Eakin earned assists on the goal.
The Heat responded less than three minutes later with a power play goal at 8:07.
Krys Kolanos scored his fifth goal of the season. Ben Street and Roman Horak assisted. The game remained tied 1-1 after forty minutes of play.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the game was decided in a shootout.
T.J. Brodie, Roman Horak, and Krys Kolanos scored for the Heat, and Barry Brust stopped three of five shots to give the Heat their second shootout win of the season.
Brust stopped 39 of 40 shots in the game and remains undefeated in regulation this season. The Heat were outshot 40 to 27.
Abbotsford scored one goal on four power play opportunities and killed four of five Texas man advantages.
The Heat now head out on the road to play six games prior to the New Year. The December 29th game against the Chicago Wolves will be broadcast on Sportsnet One. Puck drop is set for 9:00 AM PST. The Heat will play eight home games in January, including games against the Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) and the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens).
