Marlies Community Efforts A Success

August 11, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release

A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies - primary affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs - announced today that they helped raise a record total of $179,159 for numerous charities throughout the Greater Toronto Area during the 2007-08 campaign. The team also made 675 appearances in the community representing a feat more than twice their inaugural season total.

In conjunction with The Canadian Safe School Network, team volunteers helped raise a total of $20,215 through 50/50 draws, marking the most successful initiative of the season. Working alongside the CSSN for the third consecutive season, Marlies players and staff visited schools across the GTA throughout the year in an effort to reduce youth violence while making our communities safer.

The team's October 27, 2007 home game versus the Hamilton Bulldogs was held in support of breast cancer awareness and garnered almost $7,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation through donations and a number of unique auctions.

During the 2007-08 season, the Marlies donated more than $71,000 in tickets to Toronto based "Kids up Front", which allows underprivileged children attend live events when they otherwise may not have the opportunity to do so.

With an approximate value of more than $158,944, nearly 2,256 items, including tickets, suites and team memorabilia were donated as part of key fundraiser initiatives to various charitable outlets throughout the team's most recent campaign.
