
River Rats Announce 2008-09 Schedule

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today their complete 2008-09 American Hockey League regular season schedule. The River Rats begin their 16th AHL campaign with their home opener at the Times Union Center on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 7:00 pm against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes will then play a "home" game at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 7:30 pm against the Worcester Sharks; Albany's first road game will take place on Saturday, October 18th at 7:00 pm at Bridgeport. The 2008-09 regular season comes to a close on Saturday, April 11, 2009 when the River Rats host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
The River Rats will once again play in the East Division of the Eastern Conference with a total of 46 Divisional games on the schedule. The club will play four "home" games at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Friday, October 17th at 7:30 pm, on Saturday February 7th at 5:00 pm, on Sunday, March 8th at 5:00 pm and Friday, April 3rd at 7:30 pm. All home games at the Times Union Center begin at 7:00 pm, with the exception of nine dates: a 1:00 pm face off on Saturday October 25th and 5:00 pm starts on November 29th, December 14th and 27th, February 16th and 22nd, and March 1st, 14th and 22nd.
The River Rats will play 32 of their 40 home games on weekend dates (Friday, Saturday & Sunday), while playing six Wednesday home games (down from 10 in 2007-08), along with one Monday and Tuesday home game this year.
January and February will be Albany's busiest months of the season with 14 games each, both months with six home dates and eight road match-ups. The River Rats show a season-high eight home games in March, while the club will host six dates in November, December, January and February. Albany will have two season-long four-game home stands from November 28th - December 5th and again from March 8th - 14th. The club will embark on a season-long, four game road trip on January 9th; they will also finish the regular season with five of their last nine games at home.
