Marlies Assign Three Players To Columbia; Sign Ouzas To ATO

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has loaned forwards Tyler Doig and Peter Tsimikalis and defenceman Patrick Wellar to the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL. In addition, the Marlies have signed goaltender Michael Ouzas to an amateur try-out contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Doig, 22, posted eight points (four goals, four assists) and a plus-10 rating in 24 games this season with the Marlies. The Seaforth, Ontario native recorded his first career AHL goal on February 23 versus the Binghamton Senators. Doig skated in 38 games earlier this season with Columbia, registering 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) and 37 penalty minutes.

Tsimikalis, 22, registered eight points (two goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes in 29 games with the Marlies. The 6-1, 195 pound forward appeared in 40 games with Columbia this season, notching 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) and 18 penalty minutes.

Wellar, a 6-3, 210-pound defenceman appeared in 18 games with the Marlies this season, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and 13 penalty minutes. The Carrot River, Saskatchewan native scored his first career AHL goal on March 30 versus Lake Erie and also added an assist for his first career multi-point game in the AHL. In 52 games with the Inferno this season, Wellar has tallied 28 points (eight goals, 20 assists) and 77 penalty minutes.

Ouzas, 22, led the UNB Varsity Reds men's hockey team to consecutive National finals - winning gold in 2007 and capturing silver in the recent 2008 event. This past season he posted a 20-1-0-1 record with a 1.91 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Ouzas was named a 2007-08 CIS All-Canadian and an AUS first team all-star.

The Marlies take on the Chicago Wolves - AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers - on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum in a battle between the top two teams in the Western Conference. Toronto travels to Hamilton to play the Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - on Friday evening at Copps Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. The Marlies and Rogers present Duke bobblehead night on Saturday, April 12 when they host the Rochester Americans - AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers - at 4:00 p.m. The Marlies play their final regular season game of the season on Sunday, April 13 versus the Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks - at 4:00 p.m. For playoff ticket information, visit www.torontomarlies.com or call the team's ticket line at 416-597-PUCK.
