Marcelo Saragosa Undergoes Successful Right Knee Surgery

Washington D.C. (May 15, 2013) - D.C. United today announced that United midfielder Marcelo Saragosa has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to remove a loose body from the medial joint line. The procedure was performed by Doctor James Gilbert of Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy in Silver Spring, Md. Dr. James Gilbert examined Saragosa on Saturday and successfully performed surgery on him on Tuesday. The timeframe of Saragosa's return is 4-6 weeks.

Entering his ninth season in MLS, Saragosa has played in seven games (three starts) thus far in United's 2013 campaign, logging 320 minutes for the Black-and-Red. Last season, Saragosa started 12 games - appearing in 16 overall - and logged 1,120 minutes, netting one goal and adding one assist. Saragosa joined the Black-and-Red on 2/6/12 from the Azerbaijan first division after leaving MLS in 2010 following his stint with Chivas USA.
