
Sporting KC to Host US Open Cup Third Round Match on May 28

Sporting Kansas City will begin the team's defense of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship at 7:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 28 at Sporting Park in the third round of the tournament. Sporting Kansas City will host the winner of the second round match between:
Des Moines Menace (PDL)/Madison 56ers (NPSL)* vs. Minnesota United FC (NASL) at 7:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 21 at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.
*The Des Moines Menace play the Madison 56ers at 7:30 CT tonight at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, Iowa.
All Sporting Kansas City full Season Ticket Members have a ticket to the third round match on May 28 at Sporting Park, and all subsequent U.S. Open Cup home matches through the quarterfinals, as part of their season ticket package. Single-game tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, May 20 and may be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offies.
Sporting Kansas City won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2004 and 2012, defeating the Seattle Sounders FC in last year's final at Sporting Park.
The 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the 100th edition of the domestic tournament, began on May 7 and features 68 teams, the largest field in the modern era. All U.S. based Division I, II and III teams will participate in the tournament proper (16 from Major League Soccer, six from the North American Soccer League and 12 from USL PRO), along with 34 amateur teams from the Adult Council category.
Schedule and Results
The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports history with origins in 1914 and is named after Lamar Hunt, the original founder of Sporting Kansas City. The single-elimination tournament will continue through the championship match on Oct. 1 or 2 with the winner receiving $250,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League and their name on the Dewar Challenge Trophy.

Sixteen (16) winners from Second Round are paired against 16 MLS sides.
Fourth Round
Date: June 12
Sixteen (16) winners from Third Round face each other.
Quarterfinals
Date: June 26
Eight (8) winners from Fourth Round face each other.
Semifinals
Date: Aug. 7 or 21
Four (4) winners from Quarterfinal Round face each other.
Final
Date: Oct. 1 or 2
Two (2) winners from Semifinal Round face each other.
