Bradenton Marauders News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Marauders staged another late comeback Thursday night and cut a Blue Jays rally short in a 9-7 win at TD Ballpark.
The win was the Marauders' ninth in a row, tying the franchise record of nine straight wins from July 29 to August 8, 2011.
Trailing 4-3 entering the seventh inning, the Marauders (18-9) got a two-out walk from Eli Wilson. After a wild pitch by Juan de Paula (1-3) moved Wilson to second base, Norkis Marcos lined a game-tying RBI-single to left field. As left fielder Jhon Solarte threw home, Marcos took second base and drew a wild throw from catcher Zach Britton that sailed into right-center, allowing Marcos to race home for the go-ahead run.
The Marauders rallied to add four runs in the top of the ninth, getting a two-run double from Ernny Ordonez and RBI-singles from Sammy Siani and Hudson Head to extend the lead to 9-4.
The insurance runs proved crucial, as the Blue Jays (8-19) staged a comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth. With Xavier Concepcion on the mound, an error and a single put men on first and second with none out. After a flyout, Mack Mueller was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Solarte delivered a two-run single. Zac Cook followed with a slow dribbler toward the mound, and after slipping, Concepcion threw Cook out at first base from the seat of his pants for the second out, with a run scoring on the play to bring Dunedin within two runs. Leo Jimenez then flied out to center field, sealing the victory for Bradenton.
Logan Hofmann (2-0) earned the win in relief, retiring 12 of the 13 batters he faced in four scoreless innings.
Bradenton had jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Jase Bowen RBI-double in the first inning and an Ordonez sacrifice fly in the second, but Miguel Hiraldo launched a game-tying two-run homer off Marauders starter Eddy Yean in the third. Dunedin then took the lead on an Orelvis Martinez RBI-double in the third, and P.K. Morris added a solo homer off Yean in the fourth for a 4-2 Blue Jays lead.
Dariel Lopez provided an RBI-double for Bradenton in the fifth, bringing the Marauders within one run and setting the stage for Bradenton's later retaking of the lead in the seventh.
Ordonez led the Marauders with three RBI in the game, while Head's RBI-single in his final at-bat stretched his on-base streak to 16 straight games.
The series continues Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at TD Ballpark. RHP Domingo Gonzalez will start for the Marauders against Dunedin RHP Sem Robberse.
