Marauders Go 10 to Beat Charlotte 4-3

Bradenton, FL - The Bradenton Marauders (13-14) improved to 2-1 in extra-inning games when Kyle Bird's (L, 2-1) wild pitch scored 2B Pablo Reyes from third base to end a 4-3 Bradenton win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (14-13) in 10 in- nings. Bird, who had allowed six hits and no walks in his previous 16 innings allowed four hits in an inning plus and put the eventual winning run on with a leadoff walk.

Charlotte raced to a 3-0 lead and chased RHP Colten Brewer after 2 2/3 innings. The Bradenton bullpen turned in a valiant effort as four hurlers combined to throw 7 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Jose Regalado whiffed four over 2 1/3 innings, RHP Tate Scioneaux went two scoreless frames in his Bradenton debut, RHP Miguel Rosario delivered scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, and RHP Luis Heredia (W, 1-0) earned the victory by posting a scoreless 10th inning.

SS Kevin Newman started the comeback with an RBI single off Hunter Wood in the fifth inning. Wood struck out seven over six innings. In his final frame he surrendered a solo home run to LF Jordan Luplow that trimmed the lead to 3-2.

Neil Wagner blew the save for Charlotte in the eighth. C Taylor Gushue's ground out to the right side with two in scoring position and one away knotted the score.

Bird was able to escape a three-hit ninth in large part thinks to a pick-off of 3B Connor Joe at first base after a leadoff single. In the 10th, Bird walked Reyes and gave up a hit to 1B Jerrick Suiter that advanced Reyes all the way to third. Bird's low and outside pitch to Gushue went to the backstop to end the game.

UP NEXT: The Marauders play game two of the series against Charlotte on Friday night... First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m..... RHP Yeudy Garcia will make his sixth start for the Marauders... He will be opposed by RHP Benton Moss.

NOTES: The game began at 6:32 p.m. under partly cloudy skies, 79 degrees, wind blowing 13 mph from left to right... The Marauders still have not played a game longer than 3 hours, even in three extra inning games...Charlotte has lost games on game- ending wild pitches in two of their last four trips to McKechnie Field.
