Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (14-14) lost their fifth in a row as they fell to the Jupiter Hammerheads (12-15) 3-1 on Thursday evening.
The Rundown
Matt Pearce (2-1) received his first loss on the season as he did the same thing his teammate, Jacob Evans, did the night before. He pitched a total of seven innings, giving up six hits, three runs (two earned) striking out five and walking one. He did not receive any run support as the Cardinals had one run on one hit in the contest.
Jupiter started the game right out the gate as Brian Schales hit a triple to left center and was later plated off the bat of Brian Anderson. Pearce would then get out of the inning with no more damage to his name.
Jupiter would then put another run on the board in both the third and fourth innings. John Norwood would hit a 0-1 pitch to left field for his second home run of the season to make it 2-0. In the top of the fourth inning, Yuniel Ramirez would reach first on a fielder's choice and then get to second on a wild throw from Pearce on a pickoff attempt. He would then move to third on the next pitch as Pearce put one in the dirt. He would then score on a Rehiner Cordova single.
The Cardinals would then get one back in the bottom of the fourth as Casey Turgeon brought Danny Diekroeger home on a ground out to second with the bases loaded and one out. This would make the game 3-1, a lead the Hammerheads would never relinquish.
The Cardinals would only get one hit over the final five innings, an Orlando Olivera double in the seventh. Esmerling De La Rosa, Raudel Lazo and Jose Adames would shut down the Cardinals and win by a final of 3-1 at the Dean.
