Marauders Get Within One with 5-3 Victory

Jupiter, FL - The Marauders (15-9, 47-47) closed the Cardinals' (17-8, 49-46) South Division lead to a single game with a 5-3 win on Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium. LHP Cody Dickson (W, 9-5) and RHP Tyler Eppler teamed to strike out 10. The former Sam Houston State teammates surrendered six total hits.

1B Edwin Espinal opened the scoring with a solo home run off Trey Nielsen (L, 8-6) in the second inning.

The Cardinals fought back with a single run in each of the next two innings against Dickson to lead 2-1 after four innings.

The Marauders plated runs in three straight innings starting with the fifth. CF Austin Meadows belted a two-run single to right for a 3-2 lead. Espinal chased Nielsen in the sixth with an RBI single that broke a 3- 3 tie. JaCoby Jones ripped an infield hit to third base with the bases loaded in the seventh to plate an insurance run.

Eppler threw 40 of his 49 pitches for strikes while striking out a season best six batters while earning his first save.

NOTES: The game began at 6:36 p.m. under clear skies, 89 degrees, and wind blowing 15 mph from right to left ... Edwin Espinal is 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs against Trey Nielsen this season ... The Marauders have required just two pitchers in each of their last three games ... Tyler Eppler earned the longest save for the Marauders this season ...
