Manitoba Wins Big Over Cleveland

November 3, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose (5-3-1) and Cleveland Monsters (3-6-0) played the first of their eight meetings on the season Thursday night at the MTS Centre. The visitors got the scoring started 6:35 in when Justin Scott benefitted from a giveaway behind the Moose goal to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. The Moose tied it up when recent professional tryout signing Darcy Murphy jammed the puck past Joonas Korpisalo at 14:15. That score held to the break with Eric Comrie turning away 10 of 11 Cleveland offerings while Korpisalo made nine saves on 10 shots. The middle frame saw Manitoba grab the lead on another first, 8:29 into the second. Quinton Howden opened up Peter Stoykewych in the faceoff circle and the second year defenceman buried the first goal of his AHL career. Cleveland pulled even on the powerplay when Ryan Craig tipped home a Daniel Zaar point shot with just over six minutes left in the period. The Moose responded 2:30 later when Jimmy Lodge spotted Ryan Olsen in front and his quick redirect put Manitoba back in front, 3-2, after two. The third period saw the Moose lead hold until the 7:16 mark when Cody Goloubef's centering pass directed in off a Moose defender in front. Manitoba didn't waste any time, responding only 1:28 later. Scott Glennie got away a brilliant feed, while falling, to give Quinton Howden plenty of time and space. The Moose goal leader walked in and blistered a wrist shot to the twine to give Manitoba a 4-3 edge. The home side continued to push the score, this time on the powerplay, when Jack Roslovic set up Nic Petan for a backdoor one-timer and a 5-3 lead at 14:13. Howden iced the game shorthanded when his backhand clearing attempt found the Monster's empty net. Roslovic finished things off with his third of the year, also into an empty net, for the 7-3 Moose win. Quick Hits

But ultimately, at the end of the day, we got a win here and we needed it and we proved ourselves against a very good team tonight." Pascal Vincent - "Our (defencemen) were gapping up, our forwards were tracking back hard to our zone. We blocked some important shots.
