Manitoba Moose News Release
SUCCESSFUL HOME STAND: The Moose used their four-game home stand to perfection, winning all four games. With the sweeps of San Diego and Cleveland, Manitoba moved to 5-1-0-0 at the MTS Centre this season. The Moose have won five straight at home, giving them their longest home win streak since returning to Winnipeg.
HOT START: Scott Glennie didn't need long to get back in the groove. After missing the entire 2015-16 season and the first seven games of this campaign, Glennie broke out in his second and third games. The Winnipeg native picked up two assists in Thursday's game. He then turned in a first star performance on Saturday, scoring twice and adding an assist. After just three games, Glennie sits tied for fourth on the Moose in scoring with five points (3G, 2A).
GOAL MACHINE: Quinton Howden scored in both games this week, adding three goals, and bringing his total to seven on the year. That mark has him tied for second in the AHL. Howden's quick pace to start the year is powered by an impressive 43.8% shooting percentage with seven goals on 18 shots. Howden is on pace to surpass his career high of 13 goals, set in 2012-13 with San Antonio.
KEEP THE PUCK: Darcy Murphy had a whirlwind week after being signed to a PTO by the Moose. The first year pro started the season with the Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) before getting the call. Murphy scored his first AHL goal just 14:15 into his first game on Thursday. Second year defenceman Peter Stoykewych also tallied his first career goal on Thursday in his 62nd AHL game.
SWEET HOME MANITOBA: Last week was a showcase for local talent on the Moose. Manitoba born players accounted for six of 12 goals scored by the Moose in their two game set against Cleveland. The trio of Howden, Glennie and Stoykewych combined for 12 points (6G, 6A) in two games and were a combined +14 plus/minus rating. MOOSE VANQUISH MONSTERS The Manitoba Moose cruised by the defending Calder Cup champion Cleveland Monsters last week with 7-3 and 5-2 wins at the MTS Centre. The Moose have won four straight games, going undefeated on their four game home stand. The Moose are 6-3-0-1 on the season and start the week second in the Central Division. (Photo: Jonathan Kozub) Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016: Cleveland 3 at Manitoba 7 A back-and-forth affair saw the Moose and Monsters tied 3-3 when Cleveland's Cody Goloubef evened the score 7:16 into the third. Quinton Howden gave Manitoba the lead back less than 90 seconds later and the Moose never looked back. Nic Petan scored on a 5-on-3 for a bit of breathing room before Howden and Jack Roslovic scored empty net goals for the 7-3 win. Eric Comrie turned aside 32 of 35 shots in the victory. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016: Cleveland 2 at Manitoba 5 Manitoba surrendered the opening goal for the second straight night, but the Moose stormed back with four in a row. Scott Glennie scored twice and Brendan Lemieux cashed in on a bank shot from below the goal line in the first. JC Lipon made it 4-1 on a breakaway in the second period. Things got interesting with a Monsters powerplay goal, but Quinton Howden solidified the lead with a late-frame powerplay marker of his own. Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves in 5-2 the win.
